About These Pieces
What are these statues made of?
I individually hand-paint pre-molded plaster statues, using a combination of acrylic and oil paints, as well as oil-based stains used for antiquing finishes, between layers of sealant. Painted, these materials are intended for indoor use.
Because they are individually hand-painted, my statues have a natural variance that reflects their artistic quality. I also mix paints and stains specific for each statue. So while I can try to achieve similar look to a previously painted statue if requested, no two statues will be identical.Regardless, I work with my customers to obtain a finished piece with which they will be delighted and which will last for generations, bringing them and those who look upon the piece closer to God through prayer and contemplation.

About Mary Sheiko
Raised in rural Indiana, I spent ten years in 4-H, seven of which were dedicated to the plaster craft project.
After obtaining my Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in English Literature from Christendom College, I married and had two daughters. We reside in Indiana where I home schools our girls and continue my artistic pursuits which of course include painting statues.
Having a strong German Catholic heritage, I have always been drawn to religious pieces. I have seen a definite need for well-painted statues, as well. I hope that my pieces will raise others' thoughts and bring them closer to God.
The Catholic tradition of keeping images of the saints around us is a beautiful one, likened to that of keeping photographs of deceased relatives nearby in the hope of preserving their memory. With these statues, I hope to preserve the memory and virtuous example of the saints, Our Blessed Mother and, of course, Our Lord Jesus.
I do not keep an inventory, so each statue is commissioned via Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/marysheiko) and individually painted in my home. The completion of each piece depends upon my current order load. Please order well in advance if you have a deadline by which you would like your piece.
